The pocket vane tester is a simple instrument widely used by geologists, geotechnical engineers and agronomists to easily obtain an estimate of the undrained shear strength Cu of cohesive or semi-cohesive soils.

On the instrument scale, the undrained shear strength Cu is directly read in kg / cm2 or in tons / ft2.

The measurement is obtained from the torque required to rotate a wire blade inserted into the soil so as to cause failure of the cylindrical part of the undisturbed cohesive soil.

The measurements obtained from the pocket vane tester are a reliable support for geologists in the description and classification of soils and are an initial simple method for the evaluation of shear strength in terms of total stress.

The S80, complete with accessories, can be used either on site or in the laboratory in a wide range of insensitive shear forces.
