The pocket vane tester is a simple instrument widely used by geologists, geotechnical engineers and agronomists to easily obtain an estimate of the undrained shear strength Cu of cohesive or semi-cohesive soils.
On the instrument scale, the undrained shear strength Cu is directly read in kg / cm2 or in tons / ft2.
The measurement is obtained from the torque required to rotate a wire blade inserted into the soil so as to cause failure of the cylindrical part of the undisturbed cohesive soil.
